Dear John, Here's your Superman Supacomic #41... Oh, and by the way, we really need to talk...

I don’t know Carolyn Saunders. And I don’t know whether she finished her ‘Dear John’ letter or not. But it appears she rehearsed her lines on this copy of Superman Supacomic #41, and I must say it rates as the most civil of break-up letters, as well as the most notable and unexpected comics marginalia I have come across to date.

I wonder whether it was the fellow's own copy she was practising on...? Personally, that would have pissed me off more than the break-up...!

heh heh heh - 'tis true, Mr. M.

There's a very good reason why Hallmark and www.superdickery.com don't share office space.

It also raised for me the question of the stamp "HUBS". I've seen it on many copies on eBay, and have a couple myself. Anyone know what it means?

I've noticed the HUBS stamp tends to appear on KGMs from New Zealand, so I've assumed it's an abbreviation for a distributor or something similar in NZ.

I have a few "HUBS" copies myself. They may well signify a distributor, but perhaps they're the personal collection of comics fan John Hubs, who devoted all his time and attention to amassing a huge collection of KGMs after that cow Carolyn gave him the flick.

"Think I spend too much time and buying comics, does she? Well, I'LL SHOW HER! I'll buy more comics than ANYONE ELSE, and I'll stamp my name in EVERY ONE!"

Err... this is one of my more fanciful comics theories.....

Cheers

Mark

John Hubs and I grew up in Wanganui together. He didn't have much luck with women.
