The cover to Newton Comics' Planet of the Apes #1 originally appeared on Marvel Comics' Planet of the Apes #1. The contents following are also from this issue:
Terror on the Planet of the Apes Chapter 1: The Lawgiver
Terror on the Planet of the Apes Chapter Two: Fugitives on the Planet of the Apes
Planet of the Apes [Part 1]
The two Terror on the Planet of the Apes chapters appear to be reprinted in the Newton edition as per the Marvel edition.
Planet of the Apes [Part 1] is the beginning of the movie serialisation. I've designated it [Part 1] firstly because only the first 12 of 25 pages are reprinted in this edition, and secondly because Newton elected to broadcast a title for the next part of this chapter in Planet of the Apes #2:
The chapter title Prepare to Die was not used in the next issue. This is where the tracking problems begin.
This issue includes a poster of The Incredible Hulk:
The contest on the rear cover expires 7 July 1975.
Planet of the Apes #1 is advertised as on sale 7 June 1975 in Newton's The Amazing Spider-Man #1;
The Sunday Observer special dated 1 June 1975 advertises it as On Sale Next Weekend. It was also advertised in the Sunday Observer 8 June 1975 as "on sale now":
The evidence is clear: this issue was published on 7 June 1975.
The evidence is clear: this issue was published on 7 June 1975.
Planet of the Apes #1 was also reprinted in Australia by Yaffa a few years later.
Update 15 May 2021:
The Hulk poster in this issue is by Lopez Espi and was originally available via Marvel UK magazines:
The first image is of the poster and the second is a sticker or transfer.
